Do I need a building permit for a shed or carport?
Often, yes. Under Schedule 3 of the Building Regulations 2018, a freestanding Class 10a shed is exempt only if it is no more than 10 m² in floor area and no more than 3 m high, dropping to 2.4 m if it is within 1 m of a boundary, among other conditions.
